Aramis advances towards Final Investment Decision, prepares leadership for execution phase
Annemarie Manger continues to lead towards transition; recruitment for execution-phase Project Director launched
Under the renewed partnership structure, in which public parties Gasunie and EBN have taken the lead, the Aramis project is progressing steadily. Many milestones have been achieved in the past period of time, despite the pending appeal against the permits for the Aramis initiative. This rebalanced structure demonstrates strong public commitment to the Aramis initiative and sends a clear signal of confidence in the future. Parties in the Aramis value chain plan to take FID in 2027 and to be operational in 2030, to be able to contribute to the climate goals and a strong and more sustainable future for our industries. This will be a key building block in the development of a successful and safe CCS value chain in the Netherlands and Northwest Europe.
With FID approaching, Gasunie and EBN are preparing the Aramis organisation for the transition from development into execution. To support this next phase, the recruitment process for a new Project Director has been initiated. Under Annemarie Manger, the current Programme Director who’s been active in this role since April 2023, Aramis achieved many key milestones:
- Built and further developed the Aramis organisation throughout the different phases of project development.
- Advanced Aramis towards FID through completion of the technical design, the launch of key procurement activities, and the granting of the final project permits by the Dutch government (pending irrevocable status).
- Strengthened the Aramis value chain through commercial development and close collaboration with cross-border industry and government stakeholders.
The aim is to have ample time for a solid transition and to have execution leadership in place well before FID. Annemarie Manger remains in the role during this transition and support the handover; the recruitment has started now to avoid any leadership gap.
Annemarie Manger, Programme Director Aramis: ”I continue to support Aramis and the development of the value chain. I’m proud of the team and the achievements that we made so far, however I do realise it will still require significant effort before first injection.“
Pieter Tavenier, Managing Director CCS at Gasunie: “Annemarie has played a pivotal role in shaping Aramis into the strong project it is today and that she will continue to do so until the transition. Aramis has established a solid foundation. Aramis and DRC form the backbone of Northwest Europe. Both Gasunie and EBN are fully aligned in making CCS happen and Aramis is an essential part of it.”
Joost Hooghiem, CCS Director at EBN: “Aramis is more than an individual CCS project. It is a crucial building block of an integrated CCS system that connects industrial parties, transport infrastructure and offshore storage. We’re developing a complete new system. The progress Annemarie and the team have made with Aramis provides a strong foundation for the next steps towards FID.”
Aramis plays a key role in the development of the cross-border CO₂ network between Germany and the Netherlands and holds the PCI status. It has been awarded a CEF subsidy by the European Union.
